Five steps into freelancing
From portfolio to first client — a guide written from real experience.
The first step is skill, not the marketplace. Take one skill to the point where you can finish the job on your own. Opening a profile half-trained wastes time.
The second step is the portfolio. Three complete projects are enough, but each should say what the problem was, what you did and what came of it.
The third step is communication. Writing clearly in English, replying on time and keeping promises — these three carry further than many technical skills.
The fourth step is the first job. Take a small budget and build a good review. The fifth step is consistency — sending proposals regularly and updating the portfolio after every job.
